Simple OCR is another free OCR software to convert images to editable text. The basic capabilities of this freeware is actually almost the same as OCR tool I previously mentioned, freeOCR (offline based) and google docs OCR (online based). If you have a scanner or images from printed documents, and you want to extract the text from those images, then you can use SimpleOCR. Best of all it is freeware so you are free to use / download SimpleOCR.
Once you have downloaded and installed SimpleOCR, simply run the program. On the introduction page you can choose either to read machine print or hand writing before performing OCR. The application also comes with a demo video, to point out some necessary steps of using SimpleOCR. SimpleOCR allows you to open images from scanner, file (.tif, .jpg, .bmp), batch (.tif) and InkLink (*.ink). To start using SimpleOCR, click on “Select” button – Add or load images – and then click “convert to text” button on the menu bar.

The OCR result will be not perfect, yes it will depend on the image quality. To get the best result make sure you input high resolution quality images. The image and editable text (from the conversion), both will be shown a half in one window, thus it is easier for you to edit some errors. After you have fixed all the errors you can save it into Microsoft word (.doc) or text (.txt).
