How To Create Symbols Using Alt Key? (For PC and Laptop Keyboard)

In our daily computer activities it’s rare for us to make special characters, so maybe some of you still don’t know how to make symbols. If we use Microsoft word you can insert those characters easily from the symbols lists provided by the software, just click insert tab and click Symbol then it will show tons of special characters. But, how to create symbols on facebook, MySpace, blog, IM, notepad and other online or offline media?

Unfortunately copying the symbols from ms word and paste them on other media won’t help you. But you can still make symbols manually by using “alt” key with your keyboard, it’s very easy and fun! Here are few examples of them: ♥ heart symbol, ☺ ☻smiley face, ♪ ♫ musical notes, © copyright, ® registered, ™ trademark, and etc.

How To Create Symbols By Using “Alt” Key?

For PC Computer Keyboard
1. Turn on or press the “Num Lock”. That will activate the numpad keys.
2. Now try to create a symbol. For example: to make heart symbol, press and hold “alt” key then press 3 (on your keypad keys, not the horizontal number!)

For Laptop or Notebook Keyboard
1. To activate your “numpad” press “NumLk”. Depend on your laptop, some notebook need combination of Fn + F11 (or other keys) to activate numpad keys.
2. So, where is your numpad? Now, your numpad keys are M(0), J(1), K(2), L(3), U (4), I (5), O (6)…and so on, see on the picture below!

3. Try to make a symbol. For example: to create smiley face, press and hold “alt” key then press 1 (or J)
