Nero is one of the most popular tool for CD and DVD burning. In 2011 the free version of this software is Nero BurnLite 10 aka Nero 10 Lite. It offers basic tools for burning data into CD or DVD, also to build image files (image recorder) that supports ISO, UDF, ISO/UDF. The free Nero BurnLite 10 download (v 10.0.10600) is the latest version in 2011, compatible with all windows 7, XP, and Vista, supports any media for data burning like CD-R, DVD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM.
However, Nero BurningLite 10 only includes basic burning tools for CD or DVD authoring and image recorder. It does not include additional features and functionality such as ripping music (rip audio CDs to MP3), rip protected DVD or Blu-ray discs, photo slideshows builder and more. Those facilities are only available on Nero Burning ROM and Multimedia Suite (paid version).
If you are looking for (only) a CD / DVD burner / disc image creator software and don’t need any other features then the Lite version is enough for you. Moreover Nero BurnLite 10 download size is smaller than the full version and the other advantage is of course it is lighter. It wont install any unnecessary tools other than free CD / DVD burning application.
